So far, AF Decom has contributed from the contractor’s perspective, particularly on reuse practices and environmental mapping at a general level (environmental mapping refers to the process of identifying and assessing environmental aspects of a project, such as materials, emissions, and potential environmental impacts).

The team has shared practical experience from both ongoing and completed projects, highlighting what works effectively in real construction settings, as well as the key challenges and opportunities currently observed in the industry.

AF Decom also delivered a presentation at the University of The Hague, where the team presented a project carried out in Norway, with a specific focus on the reuse of bricks.
The presentation illustrated how selective demolition and systematic environmental assessments (structured evaluations of environmental impacts and material conditions) can support higher levels of material reuse in real construction projects.Through the actual task, AF Decom is currently working on defining the net circular value potential in Arctic regions.

This work focuses on identifying realistic economic, environmental, and social benefits, while taking into account the specific climatic and logistical challenges of Arctic environments.
