Do you remember Sustainable Places 2025 in Milan?
We are pleased to announce the publication of a new white paper capturing the key insights from the workshop “Re-Valuing Resources: Cross-Sectoral Circular Solutions for a Sustainable Future”, held during the event from 8–10 October 2025.
About the workshop
The workshop included eight Horizon Europe projects : ReBoat, THESEUS Hub 4 Circularity, DeremCo, YouRban, Wood2Wood, SUM4Re, ICONIC, and STORCITO, with a shared ambition : accelerating Europe’s transition toward decarbonisation and climate neutrality through circular innovation.
Although each project operates in a different context ranging from construction and industrial systems to islands, cities, and rural regions they all aim to move beyond linear models and develop recovering, cross-sectoral value chains.
What the white paper covers
- Advancing cross-sectoral circularity
It synthesises how the participating projects enable circular solutions through material reuse, digital tools, and systemic approaches that connect industries, governance levels, and territorial scales. - Replication and scaling potential
It identifies the conditions that support replication and upscaling, based on real-world demonstrations and the experiences of stakeholders involved in the pilots. - Social, community, and governance dimensions
It highlights the importance of participatory practices, long-term trust-building, and multi-actor collaboration as key enablers of successful circular transitions.
A big thanks to ReBoat Project for coordinating the writing of the white paper.
From local pilots to European impact
Structured around the workshop’s guiding themes, the white paper translates project-level insights into actionable messages for policymakers, practitioners, and regional stakeholders.
Drawing on hands-on experiences from island-based resource loops and AI-assisted material banks to rural climate-resilience tools, it shows how locally adapted circular solutions can collectively contribute to Europe’s climate objectives.
