TEKNOLOGIAN TUTKIMUSKESKUS VTT OY (VTT), one of Europe’s leading research institutions, continues to advance the SUM4Re project with significant technical and policy-oriented contributions.
📝 Policy Landscape and Recommendations
VTT finalized a comprehensive report on the policy landscape surrounding the reuse of secondary raw materials in construction. This report includes policy recommendations that will be validated by SUM4Re consortium partners during an upcoming workshop in Oslo. The results have also been refined into an abstract submitted for presentation (by Mario) at the ISWA World Congress in autumn 2025, broadening the project’s visibility within the global waste management community.
🛠️ C-BIM Recommendations
VTT contributed to the development of C-BIM (Circular Building Information Modelling) recommendations, supporting digital tools for integrating circularity into construction practices.
🌳 AHS Scanning of Wood Samples from Svalbard
On the technical side, VTT scanned wood samples from the Svalbard pilot test site using an active hyperspectral sensor (AHS) in controlled laboratory conditions. This innovative work revealed promising results:
- Classification of different parts of the samples
- Detection of regions containing mould
- Estimation of surface humidity
This research helps develop advanced methods for assessing the quality and reuse potential of building materials, a key component of SUM4Re’s vision for sustainable construction.
